Ophthalmology and Visual Neuroscience
The fields of neurology and ophthalmology are combined in neuro-ophthalmology, which is a super specialty. Neuro-ophthalmologists are doctors that specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological system conditions that impact vision, eye movements, alignment, and pupillary reflexes. Patients with complex multi-system disease are frequently seen by neuro-ophthalmologists, and “zebras” are not uncommon.
Visual neuroscience is a discipline of neuroscience that studies the human body’s visual system, which is mostly located in the visual cortex of the brain. Visual neuroscience’s fundamental goal is to figure out how brain activity affects visual perception and vision-dependent behavior. Visual neuroscience has previously concentrated on how the brain (particularly the Visual Cortex) responds to light rays put onto the retina from static images.
