About

Dr. Jelena Prpić is a distinguished veterinary scientist specializing in serological and molecular diagnostics of viral diseases in animals. Her research journey is anchored in the development, validation, and implementation of advanced diagnostic methods, which have significantly improved the detection and management of diseases such as classical and African swine fever, PCV2, PRRSV, HEV, PRV, and IBRV. A pivotal milestone in her career was the completion of her Ph.D. dissertation titled “Prevalence, Distribution, and Phylogenetic Analysis of Hepatitis E Virus Isolated from Different Species of Domestic and Wild Animals in Croatia” at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, in 2012. This research provided critical insights into the epidemiology and interspecies transmission of HEV.

Currently, Dr. Prpić is actively involved in molecular diagnostics at the Laboratory for Diagnostics of Classical and African Swine Fever, where she plays a key role in refining diagnostic techniques and supporting the lab’s accreditation standards. She is also engaged in collaborative scientific projects aimed at improving viral disease surveillance. In addition to her research, she serves as an editor and peer reviewer for several international scientific journals, contributing to the advancement of veterinary virology through her dedication to scientific rigor and innovation.
