Addictive Behavior
Addictive behaviour is the way that an individual continues to repeat a process time after time, even when it is destroying their health, their social relationships, or their daily routine. The behaviour initially provides a moment of pleasure or relief but eventually becomes difficult to stop. It may include such things as drug use, alcohol consumption, gambling, overeating, excessive gaming or social media use, or even excessive shopping. Addicts usually feel intense cravings or urge and may attempt to keep their behaviour secret. They can’t seem to stop, even if they try. The reason is that the brain becomes accustomed to the behaviour and relies on it to feel comfortable. Addictive behaviour can impair feelings, decision-making, and overall health. Treatment involves therapy, support groups, and acquiring healthy coping methods. With assistance and guidance, individuals are able to recognize their behaviour and change it for the better. That is the first step towards recovery and healing
