Ailments of the Spine

Ailments of the Spine emphasize conditions that impact the spine – crucial for posture, balance, mobility and structural support. Spinal stenosis is covered in the session, where the spinal canal is narrowed, compressing the nerve roots, causing weakness, pain or numbness of the legs, which is usually treated with surgery. It also highlighted scoliosis, a condition of abnormal curvature of the spine that may lead to asana problems and, according to severity, is treated with exercise, bracing, or surgery. Osteoporosis due to age and degenerative disc diseases are identified as they further weaken the vertebrae, may fracture, inconvenience, and postural adaptation, which result in lifestyle modification or medication. Other topics are herniated discs, spinal tumors and sciatica, which involve nerve compression and is usually treated with physical therapy or medication. The session describes the need for professional assessment and early treatment for spinal health.
