Behavioral neurology
Behavioral neurology is a special branch of medicine that studies how the brain works and how it controls the way we think, feel, and behave. It merges neurology, psychiatry, psychology and related fields to examine both general cognitive processes and effects of neurological disorders. Discipline employs brain imaging and interdisciplinary cooperation – especially between neurologists and psychiatrists – to diagnose and treat conditions affected by brain dysfunction. An important emphasis lies in understanding that brain injuries (such as stroke or painful damage) affect behavior, to run experts identifying neurological deficits with experts to run cognitive and behavioral disruption. Additionally, the field addresses dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other cognitive disorders, which attempts to highlight its underlying pathology and develop effective treatments. Behavior neurology desires to tailor individual care plans that make diagnosis, treatment and patient-specific consequences meaningfully.
