Biology of Vision
Biology of Vision checks how we study how the light travels through eye structures – such as cornea and lens – and how it turns into nerve signals by photoreceptors in the retina. These signs are then transmitted to the visual cortex of the brain via the thalamus, where they are interpreted as size, color and movement. This area not only mixes anatomy, genetics, optics, psychophysics, neuro- ophthalmology and pathology to detect physical makeup of the eye, but also how genetic variations and diseases affect visual perception. By integrating these subjects, researchers and doctors can better understand eye function, address visual disorders, and eventually increase eye health and visual processing.
