Central Nervous System (CNS)
The Central Nervous System (CNS) is the major part of the body’s nervous system and consists of the brain and spinal cord. It regulates most of the body’s and mind’s functions, such as thinking, movement, feelings, and breathing. The brain functions as a control center, transmitting and receiving signals via the spinal cord to the various parts of the body. The CNS assists us to react to what we hear, see, feel, and do. The CNS also controls vital automatic activities such as heartbeat and digestion. If the CNS is injured, infected, or diseased (such as multiple sclerosis or stroke), it can influence memory, speech, movement, or other body processes. Physicians and researchers investigate the CNS to learn more about how it functions and how to heal issues impacting it. Taking good care of your CNS through a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, and adequate sleep ensures your brain and body function properly every day.
