Closed / Non-Penetrating Injury

Closed / non-penetrating injury session examines brain trauma where the skull remains intact, and no foreign object enters the brain. This type of injury often stems from impactful events such as falls, car crash, sports collisions, or explosions, causing the brain to blow inside the skull – due to injury, tearing tissue, bleeding, inflammation and interrupted neural pathways. Symptoms may appear as headache, dizziness, nausea, altered consciousness, slurred speech, seizures, or changes in mood and cognition. One of the major focuses of the session is on the delayed nature of such injuries – secondary damage such as swelling or bleeding can develop over time. The attendees will detect strategies for rapid diagnosis, neuroimaging techniques and effective acute interventions. The session also highlights rehabilitation through patient education to support physical therapy, cognitive rehabilitation and patient education to support long-term recovery.
