Drug Addiction
Drug addiction is a state in which an individual become unable to stop from the use of the drug, even if it harms their body, mind or relationships. It starts with regular consumption of drugs like alcohol, nicotine, or illegal drugs, which alters the brain’s function. Gradually, the brain starts to crave the drug more and more, making it hard for the individual to feels normal without it. Individuals with drug addiction can lose interest in work, family and hobbies, and lie or work differently to cover their habit. Drug addiction can result in severe health issues like heart disease, liver damage or mental illness. Drug addiction can target individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Treatment involves consultation, medication, group and lifestyle adjustment. It is possible to recover with the assistance and support of professionals, friends and family. Recognizing drug addiction as a disease – and not a weakness – diminishes minor shame and makes individuals more likely to seek their assistance.
