Genetics and Epigenetics in Neurodegenerative Disorders
Genetics and Epigenetics play an important role in understanding Neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington disease.
Genetics focus on inherited changes in DNA that can increase the risk of these brain diseases. Epigenetics sees how external factors, such as environment or lifestyle, can turn on or off the gene without changing DNA. Together, they help explain why some people do not develop these disorders and others, and they guide researchers in finding new ways to prevent or treat brain cell damage.
