Neurodegenerative Disorders
Neurodegenerative Disorders are a group of diseases where nerve cells in the brain, spinal cord, or peripheral nerves gradually weaken or die. Common examples include Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington, ALS and Prion Diseases. These conditions lead to a mixture of physical problems (such as movement difficulties or muscle weakness) and cognitive issues (such as memory loss or trouble thinking). The causes are often unclear, but likely involve a mixture of genetic, environmental, lifestyle and aging related factors. While treatment is yet to prevent diseases, they aim to reduce symptoms, improve daily functioning and support the quality of life. Care often includes drugs, physical and professional therapy and emotional or behavioral support. Research continues in a better way of treating and understanding these disorders.
