Neurogenesis
Neurogenesis is the process of creating new neurons in the brain. It begins during fetal development in particular brain regions where nerve stem cells produce neurons that migrate and form the brain structure. After birth, this process does not stop – it continues in adults, especially in the hippocampus and parts of the frontal lobe. Adult nerve stem cells are multipotent, which means they can make a variety of neurons, and they respond to both biological signals and environmental factors. Neurogenesis is necessary to create new brain circuits and is believed to play an important role in adapting new experiences in learning, memory and brain.
