Ophthalmology is a medical and surgical feature focused on the health of the eyes and vision. Eye doctors are known as ophthalmologists – the anatomy and function of the eye should understand and also how to diagnose and treat a wide range of visual conditions. Even though it is a small organ, the eye is incredibly complex, tissue, muscles, veins and many layers of blood vessels are working together. Ophthalmologists treat common vision loss, cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and common issues such as diabetes retinopathy, and also handle eye injuries, infections and tumors. They use devices such as visual acuity tests, oct scans, tonometry and contact lens evaluation to assess eye health. Eye -pathologists also perform surgery – including cataract removal and lymph – which is aimed at improving vision and increasing the quality of life of patients.
