Parasitic infections

Parasitic infection or diseases are illnesses due to parasites such as protozoa and helminths, which infest or live within the human body. Parasitic disease infects hundreds of millions of persons worldwide and can range from mild nuisance to potentially life-threatening, fatal disease. Protozoal infections such as malaria and amebiasis occur when one-celled animals infest the body, but helminthic illness such as hookworm and trichinosis will most likely follow ingestion of contaminated food or water and may cause anemia and malnutrition. The parasites can also infest the skin or the respiratory system and cause diseases such as scabies, head or body lice, and even respiratory illness that can mimic bronchitis, asthma, or pneumonia. Treatment depends on the severity and nature of the infection. Mild infections are treated by proper hygiene practice like washing hands and cleaning dresses, while severe infections require special medications. Early detection and immediate medical treatment are required to help control symptoms, prevent complications, and prevent the spread of parasitic disease.
