Posterior cerebral circulation Conference

Home/ Scientific Sessions / Posterior cerebral circulation Conference

The posterior cerebral circulation is a system of blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood in the back of your brain-in which the OCCPIL lobe contains brainstem, cerebellum and visual centers      . It begins with vertebrae arteries, which merge into the Basilar artery, then branch into the posterior cerebral arteries (PCA). These arteries connect the front brain circulation through the posterior communicating arteries, which form part of the protective circle of the Willis, which helps maintain blood flow, even if one route becomes blocked.

Posterior blood flow is important for vision, balance and other major functions. These vessels can cause stroke from obstructions, causing symptoms such as visual problems, dizziness, coordination issues or changed consciousness. Understanding this circulation helps in diagnosing and treating neurological conditions effectively.
