Protein chemistry

Protein Chemistry examines the physical and chemical properties of proteins – molecules required for growth, development and repair. This focuses on how proteins are structured (from their sequence of amino acids to their complex 3D folds), how they function, and how they interact with other molecules such as enzymes, hormones, or neurotransmitters. This area also explains how proteins are regulated, broken, and rebuilding cells, and environmental factors such as nutrition, age, or external conditions – affect protein behavior. In various diseases, the deep understanding of protein chemistry is important to develop protein malfunctions and develop new remedies to manipulate proteins therapeutically.
