Revascularization Treatment
Revascularization treatment is a medical procedure that is used to restore blood flow in the areas of the body, which are not getting adequate oxygen -rich blood, especially the heart or brain. When blood vessels are blocked – such as in stroke or heart attack – brain or heart parts can be damaged due to lack of oxygen. The revascularization helps to open or bypass these obstacles to normalize blood flow.
In the case of a stroke, especially in the case of an ischemic stroke, the revascularization may involve giving special medicines called clot busters (eg TPA) or using a mechanical equipment to remove clots. It is known as mechanical thrombectomy.
In heart problems, angioplasty (inserting a small balloon and stent) or bypass surgery is done to create a new way for blood flow. The goal of revascularization is to limit damage, reduce symptoms and improve recovery. This is a life -saving treatment when it is done quickly and often changes drugs and lifestyle to keep blood vessels healthy.
